I always loved making things as a young child, but didn't have time for art in high school. While attending Auburn I took art and design classes along with Physical Education courses. The art and design classes didn't come into play during my teaching career until I moved to Florida and began teaching at a small rural elementary school. I loved seeing the results when art skills were shared and students were given a challenging prompt and knew I'd found my calling. I next moved to a high achieving high school where I was honored to teach students from all walks of life as I developed the computer art program. 

 

While in Florida, I was honored by peers locally and at the state level. I was fortunate to represent the United States as a Fulbright Teacher on trips to the Australia and Japan and was also selected for other teacher seminars abroad. I found the urge to know and experience more so at the age of 58, I began graduate school where I earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Art Education.

 

After graduate school, I moved to South Carolina to be near family and continued teaching for  six more years in Charleston. After 40 years in public education, I retired. And, luckily for me, I was selected for a studio space at Redux Contemporary Art Center where I find joy every time I pick up my paint brush and I still enjoy sharing ideas and techniques with people of all ages.
